The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a psychiatrist to serve as the Senior Medical Director in the Psychiatry Faculty Practice Organization (FPO) at CUIMC. This is a full-time position in an outpatient setting which will include both clinical, as well as administrative and leadership responsibilities.

The position will include direct clinical care and candidates must have demonstrated experience, interest and training in empirically supported treatment(s) and are expected to have excellent clinical skills in working with and engaging patients and families in treatment.

This position will also include responsibilities related to program clinical operations

• To ensure efficiency, quality, and productivity and will include involvement in program development and the expansion and enhancement of clinical services.
• The Senior Medical Director will be responsible for the mentorship and support of Psychiatry FPO prescribers (physicians and nurse practitioners),
• As well as the supervision of specialty program medical directors.
• The position will include developing and maintain clinical policies, protocols and practice guidelines aligned with evidence-based psychiatric care and establishing and implementing best practices for prescribers.

The Senior Medical Director will report to the Psychiatry FPO Executive Director and Columbia Psychiatry Vice-Chair of Clinical Services and will collaborate closely with the Psychiatry FPO Senior Clinical Director and Director of Operations.

The Senior Medical Director will also closely collaborate with the Psychiatry FPO Quality Director and will champion a culture of safety, transparency, equity, and accountability within the department.

This role will support

• The development, implementation, and oversight of quality improvement,
• Patient safety, and
• Regulatory compliance initiatives within the Department of Psychiatry, particularly as it relates to prescribers.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to,

• Reviewing and helping ensure appropriate oversight of standard operating procedures (SOPs), and reviewing/amending SOPs as needed to help ensure compliance with the highest patient safety standards;
• providing consultation to faculty and staff regarding quality standards and best practices and providing as-needed support in response to issues related to Quality Safety and Patient Experience (QPSE) such as patient safety events,
• complaints and/or grievances; assisting in facilitating release of records processes; promoting measurement-based care and the use of standardized screening and assessment tools; participating in departmental quality review meetings;
• supporting risk management efforts in collaboration with legal and compliance departments.

Candidates with demonstrated productivity in developing clinical treatment programs and previous QPSE experience are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have leadership experience, as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well across disciplines and function effectively as a leader within a multi-disciplinary team. Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of work experience following training completion.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Involvement in program development, enhancement and expansion.
• Support the development, implementation and oversight of quality improvement, patient safety and regulatory compliance initiatives
• Supervision of prescribers, including medical directors of Psychiatry FPO programs.
• Establish and implement best practices for Psychiatry FPO prescribers.
• Oversee aspects of patient care in the various Psychiatry FPO programs.
• Collaborate with other leaders in Psychiatry as well as other departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

• NYS license
• Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience
• Excellent organizational, communication, and team-building skills required
• Leadership experience preferred
• Child psychiatry fellowship and board certification preferred, but not required.
• Candidates must have an MD or DO from an accredited medical or osteopathy school and have completed a child fellowship and board certification in child psychiatry. Assistant Professor requires board certification in psychiatry and 2-3 years post-residency clinical experience.
