Summary:
The primary responsibility of this faculty member is to coordinate and deliver instruction throughout the School’s pharmacotherapeutics and pharmacy practice curriculum, with a focus on internal medicine, acute care, and evidence-based pharmacotherapy in both the traditional and online pathways. Candidates with expertise in internal medicine or related specialties, including critical care, infectious diseases, cardiology, emergency medicine, or other acute-care practice areas, are encouraged to apply. Additional teaching assignments may be designated at the discretion of the Chair of Pharmacy Practice.
The faculty member will maintain an active clinical practice in an inpatient or other acute-care setting that supports direct patient care, interprofessional collaboration, and the education of pharmacy students. The individual will serve as a preceptor for Doctor of Pharmacy students in both Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs), fostering the development of clinical reasoning, evidence-based decision making, patient-centered care, and professional competencies.
Responsibilities
Teaching
Coordinate and deliver didactic, laboratory, and experiential instruction within the Pharm.D. curriculum, with emphasis on internal medicine, acute care, and evidence based pharmacotherapy.
Contribute expertise across pharmacotherapeutic content areas appropriate to the faculty member’s training and clinical practice, which may include infectious diseases, critical care, cardiology, emergency medicine, or other acute-care specialties.
Develop, assess, and continuously improve course materials in alignment with programmatic outcomes and ACPE standards.
Facilitate active learning, case-based instruction, and other innovative educational approaches in both face-to-face and online learning environments.
Serve as a faculty advisor and mentor to Pharm.D. students.
Clinical Practice and Precepting
Maintain an active clinical practice in internal medicine, acute care, or a related specialty that advances patient care and supports the mission of the School and affiliated healthcare partners.
Provide direct patient care services, including medication therapy assessment and optimization, evidence-based pharmacotherapy recommendations, medication safety, transitions of care, and other services appropriate to the practice setting.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals as an active member of the interprofessional healthcare team.
Precept and mentor pharmacy students during IPPE and APPE rotations.
Contribute to the development, evaluation, and advancement of clinical pharmacy services at the affiliated practice site, as appropriate.
Scholarship
Engage in scholarly activities that contribute to the advancement of pharmacy practice, pharmacy education, internal medicine, acute care, and/or the faculty member’s area of clinical expertise.
Disseminate scholarly work through presentations, publications, grant activities, or other recognized scholarly endeavors.
Maintain a scholarly agenda consistent with expectations for appointment renewal and promotion.
Service
Participate in School, University, and departmental committee assignments as required.
Contribute to professional organizations and pharmacy practice initiatives at the local, state, or national level.
Engage in community outreach and service activities consistent with the mission and values of D’Youville University.
Support accreditation, assessment, recruitment, and other strategic initiatives of the School of Pharmacy.
Requirements
Qualifications
Education
Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an ACPE-accredited program.
Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency.
Completion of a PGY2 residency in Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, or another relevant specialty is preferred.
Eligibility for pharmacist licensure in New York State.
Board certification in a relevant area of pharmacy practice (e.g., BCPS, BCCCP, BCIDP, BCCP) preferred.
Experience
Demonstrated experience in internal medicine, acute care, or a related clinical specialty, including medication therapy assessment and optimization, evidence-based clinical decision-making, and interprofessional patient care.
Experience teaching and/or precepting pharmacy students is preferred.
Skills & Abilities

Ability to effectively teach and mentor students in didactic, case-based, laboratory, and experiential settings.
Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, faculty, staff, and students.
Proficiency with electronic health records, learning management systems, and other educational and clinical technologies.
