Description

This clinical faculty physician position will have a leadership role in the development and oversight of the University of Houston College of Medicine (UHCOM) advanced core clerkships.  This clinical faculty will be responsible for the development of the curricula for the emergency medicine rotation, the intensive care unit rotation, and the sub-internship rotation. Another component of this position will be recruiting physician preceptors and practice sites for these core rotations, correspondence with the affiliated clinical sites, and direction of required student activities during the rotation. This position will also participate in the facilitation of team-based learning sessions and didactic sessions for medical students in other pre-clerkship medical school courses.  

This clinician will also provide patient care at one of the UH affiliated clinical practices.   

At this time, all faculty appointments in the College of Medicine are non-tenure track. The College of Medicine anticipates being able to make tenure track positions available for application in the future. 

This position will report directly to the Chairman of the Clinical Sciences Department.  

Specific duties include the following: 

Primary Responsibilities: 
Educational Mission (70%) 

  • Develop the curriculum for the emergency medicine, intensive care unit, and sub-internship clinical rotations and identify required clinical experiences. 
  • Recruit additional clinical sites and clinicians for the emergency medicine, intensive care unit, and sub-internship clinical rotations.  
  • Correspond with the clinical sites and on-site medical staff throughout the student experience.  
  • Precept medical students at a University of Houston College of Medicine affiliated clinical location.  

Direct Patient Care (30%) 

  • Evaluate and treat patients at the University of Houston College of Medicine affiliated clinical practice. 
  • Provide input for the development of clinical protocols and guidelines for practice. 
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.  

Full-Time: 1.0 FTE 

Salary commensurate with academic achievements and experience. Consistent with all other appointments within the College of Medicine, this is a non-tenure track position.

Requirements

Qualifications: 
  • Medical Licensure in the State of Texas 
  • Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Medicine-Pediatrics, General Pediatrics, General Surgery, or Emergency Medicine 
  • Experience documenting with an electronic medical record  
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in medical education 
  • Experience with inter-professional teams 
  • Experience contributing to quality improvement projects 
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic or Chinese
