- Medical Director of Women's Services at Emory Decatur Hospital

The Emory University Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics is seeking the Medical Director of Women’s Services at Emory Decatur Hospital (EDH). This role will serve as a key physician leader, collaborating with hospital administration, nursing leadership, and departmental stakeholders to advance the mission, vision and goals of Emory Healthcare and the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. This position will hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The primary goal of the Medical Director is to ensure that patients benefit from a strong team-based approach to patient care involving physicians, APP’s, nurses, support staff and administrative staff members who routinely work together. These advantages include efficiency, improved patient safety, quality of care, continuity of care for each patient, consistency of care across patients and enhanced coordination of roles among all parties involved in delivery of care. The Medical Director shall use their best efforts to create and maintain a relationship of cooperation, teamwork and mutual support among all the physicians and associated hospital staff and take a leadership role in resolving any conflicts which may arise within the Gynecology and Obstetrics service line team.
Key responsibilities of the Medical Director include:
- Provide day-to-day medical leadership for all inpatient Women’s Services at Emory Decatur Hospital, including Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Antepartum, and Gynecologic units, ensuring safe, high-quality, patient centered care.
- Collaborate closely with Emory Decatur hospital administration, nursing leadership, Emory-employed physicians, and community OB/GYN providers to support effective coverage, patient flow, safety, and continuity of care across all Women’s Services.
- Develop and implement a strategic vision for Women’s Services at Emory Decatur Hospital that supports growth, program development, and community collaboration, aligned with Emory Healthcare and the Emory Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics.
- Serve as the key physician liaison between Emory Decatur Hospital leadership, the Emory Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics, community physicians, and the emerging Emory Healthcare Women’s Service Line, to resolve concerns, align communication, and promote collaborative practice across care settings.
- Partner with the Emory Decatur Medical Staff Office and the elected medical staff Chief of Section on credentialing standards, privileging, and performance review processes for both inpatient and outpatient OB/GYN providers practicing at Emory Decatur.
- Lead operational efficiency initiatives at Emory Decatur (including triage throughput, bed utilization, OR metrics, and optimizing care pathways) and participate in operational and capital budget planning, staffing assessments, and resource allocation to support service line effectiveness
- Oversee Women’s Services quality and safety metrics specific to Emory Decatur Hospital, including maternal morbidity indicators, cesarean delivery rates, gynecologic surgical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and readmissions.
- Lead or actively participate in Emory Decatur hospital committees related to women’s health—such as OB Quality, Perinatal Safety, Mortality Review, and Surgical Quality—and collaborate with Emory Healthcare’s Office of Quality to ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and Georgia DPH requirements.
- Create, manage, and maintain physician and APP coverage schedules for Emory Decatur’s Labor & Delivery and GYN services to ensure optimal staffing and patient safety while also promoting evidence based care, supporting education, developing policies and protocols, and fostering strong interdisciplinary teamwork
- Perform additional duties related to strategic, operational, and women's service line development as requested by hospital and departmental leadership

Requirements
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a terminal degree (MD or DO).
- Graduate of an accredited ACGME obstetrics and gynecology residency
- ABOG board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and board certification in subspecialty if applicable
- Meet criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges
- Candidates must qualify to hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor
- Licensure by the Georgia Composite Medical Board will be required prior to commencement of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership skills necessary to complement and expand the existing clinical and academic programs.
- Minimum of eight years of post-residency clinical experience
- At least four years of medical leadership experience
