- Litigation Associate Medical Malpractice Defense

Sprott Newsom Quattlebaum Messenger is a Houston-based law firm focused on medical malpractice defense and healthcare regulatory matters. We represent physicians, healthcare providers, and entities in complex litigation in Texas state and federal courts, as well as before professional licensing boards.
We are a small, litigation-driven firm that expects attorneys to take ownership of their cases, communicate directly with clients, and actively participate in case strategy and trial preparation.
Role Description
We are seeking a Litigation Associate with at least three years of experience to serve as a second chair on medical malpractice cases and to manage assigned matters under partner supervision.
This is not an entry-level or observation role. The associate will be expected to handle real responsibility, meet deadlines consistently, and produce work that can be filed and relied upon.
Responsibilities
- Serve as second chair on medical malpractice cases, including trial preparation and trial
- Manage assigned cases from initial client meeting through resolution
- Draft and respond to written discovery, including objections and discovery responses
- Draft motions, responses, replies, and pretrial filings
- Prepare case evaluations, status reports, and strategy recommendations for clients and insurers
- Meet directly with healthcare clients and prepare them for deposition and trial
- Assist with and, as appropriate, take and defend depositions
- Develop and implement litigation strategy in collaboration with the partner
Requirements

- Minimum of three (3) years of litigation experience
- Actual trial experience as second chair or equivalent
- Experience drafting and responding to written discovery, including objections
- Experience drafting motions, responses, replies, and pretrial filings
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and assigned cases with minimal supervision
- Professional judgment and the ability to work directly with sophisticated healthcare clients
- JD from an accredited law school
- Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
