Exciting opportunities are available for dedicated Hospital Pharmacists who want to make a positive impact in our communities by providing better access to life-changing medications.
Hospital Pharmacists in New Zealand ensure the safe and effective use of medicines in our hospitals and work in many different clinical settings, such as:
- inpatient wards
- outpatient clinics
- departments, for example, the Emergency Department.
Key responsibilities may include some or all of the following, depending on the role:
- Dispensing and managing medications, ensuring they are safe and appropriate for each patient
- Collaborating with healthcare teams to advise on treatments, adjusting doses, and suggesting alternatives when needed
- Teaching patients about their medications, including usage, side effects, and adherence to their treatment plans
- Providing detailed medication information and preparing custom medications when required
- Tracking patients' responses to treatment, preventing medication errors, and adjusting therapies as necessary
- Supervision, training and support of technicians, intern pharmacists and students
- Participating in an on-call service
- Partaking in interdisciplinary education
About you
To work with us, you must be eligible for registration with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand (PCNZ). Registration pathway options differ based on where you completed your training, and this determines our application pathways.

Salary and benefits
Pharmacists enjoy competitive salaries based on experience and role complexity, typically ranging from $79K NZD to $119K+ NZD ($45K USD to $67K USD) per year. You will receive four weeks of annual leave, increasing to five weeks after five years of service, along with 12 paid public holidays, giving you time to explore our beautiful country and raise a family in our diverse communities. Along with your base salary as a Pharmacist, you will receive reimbursement of your registration and practising certificate fees and your professional indemnity insurance is covered by Health New Zealand.

Once offered a position, our internal Health Immigration team can provide free support to you and your family with immigrating to New Zealand. Senior Medical Officers are on Tier 1 of New Zealand's Immigration Green List, which means you are eligible for the Straight to Residence Visa and can apply for New Zealand residency before you arrive.
